How to Write Email Copy?

    Hi Guys.

My name is Jared Gravatt. I own the website www.realestatewhangarei.co.nz

I am about to send out an email to all agents in the area advertising my site and offering them a discounted, introductory offer.

I am just struggling with how to write some 'great' email copy that will really grab their attention.

Does anyone know of any resources or have any tips on writing email copy?

    Best Regards,

    Jared.

    Good links Lightless.

Here are three tips that I didn't see mentioned when scanning those two links.

    Tip 1: Don't be boring

Did I ever tell you about the time I was a little "out of it" and pulled through the Burger King drive thru?

I really, really wanted a large Frosty. Next thing I know, I started yelling at the lady in the funny outfit who kept telling me "Sir, we don't have any."

For those who don't know, this drink is served at Wendy's not Burger King.

So, I drove away from Burger King with no Frosty and decided to stop at a convenience store for an ice cream instead.

Anyway, you can know all the buzz words, know your audience and still fail if you're boring.

    Tip 2: PDF

Does your email look like Santa's list? Do you want to make sure it's presented right?

    You have two options.

    1. Write a quick note and attach a PDF.

    2. Upload a PDF to a site and sent a very brief email about where to get it.

The email newsletter I did, which was sent to about 200,000 recipients, was a PDF attached to an email message, which was very brief.

Personally, I like uploading the PDF and directing people from the email to it.

Tip 3: Don't get fancy with the spices

    I'm talking about email subjects.

Just talk to your audience. My mailings tend to have very high open rates because I do this.

Don't be creative for creative's sake. This kills so many people.

The subject should quickly encapsulate what your email is about in an interesting way.

However, you don't need to kill yourself to get good open rates.

If you have the ability, I'd recommend split testing.

    Good luck!

Michael Rasmussen has a free course called Email Promos Exposed where he teaches you about email marketing. You might find it helpful also.

when receiving email, this is the first place most people look. If it’s a trusted source, from a friend, from a recognized name, from a site often visited, the chances of opening the email increase exponentially. This is why transactional emails—like to finalize a sale, to open a receipt, or to become a member of a site—have the highest open rates from businesses. In theory, your from line should remain consistent throughout your emails to engender trust and a modicum of brand awareness.

Spend some quality time brainstorming several strong titles for your emails. If your email titles are boring, all of your hard writing work on the inside will go completely unread.

Go for dramatic statements for your titles. Also, asking an arresting question seems to work to get those emails opened, too.

    Best of luck!
