How to Write a Pre-sale Page?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by Katierey, Apr 3, 2010.

I have an advertiser on my site, and I haven't been able to drive business his way. I recently read about a marketing technique wherein a user is sent to a "pre-sale" page. As I understand it, that's where you put in a sales put in a sales pitch. THEN the user clicks and is sent to a page where he/she can buy. I'm told this is effective.

    A few questions:

Do you have experience with a "pre-sale" page? Is it worthwhile? Any advice for me?

And . . . How do you write a pre-sale page? I assume I would put in a testimonial. I did, in fact, try out the product and loved it. I have no other testimonials.

    Thanks.

You may be talking about a landing page that sells the product to the customer, then when the customer clicks, it uses your link to get your comission.
People who sell on clickbank and similar sites use landing pages.

I have one on my blog you can look at, its in my signature.

It's a sort of landing page that gives more info about the offer/business, gives testimonials, gives positives and negatives, etc.

THEN you send visitors to the advertiser's site.

You are just educating the visitor about the offer and giving them a transition between your site and the advertiser.

Otherwise the visitor clicks, gets confused, doesn't know what to look for (because they're used to YOUR site not the advertiser's site) and they leave.

Having a presell page, like an article, does not help much. You have to drive a lot of traffic (1,000 daily, as an example) for many advertisers to be satisfied.

It is because in most cases, only one half to one percent of your visitors click on ads, so do the math.

    This is normal, though.

Learn how to increase traffic, and also have your site critiqued.

I'm not sure you understand what a pre-sell page is judging by your reply.

A good pre-sell page works very well it will help conversions considerably. Write an honest review about the product... tell them how it helped YOU... you get the potential buyer in a buying mood, and you give them a compelling reason to buy the product.

Obviously. But if not enough are reading it in the first place, there is not going to be enough traffic going to her site.

    It's as simple as that.

According to her post, she is talking about driving potential customers to one of her advertiser's site.

If she does not have enough traffic, say bu-bye to an advertiser.

She needs to learn how to drive more traffic (and not from articles, signatures, Twitter , and other such noob methods), and, get her site critiqued, so it looks damn good to get repeat visitors, and to keep them there longer.

Again, it's as simple as that.

Yes, I am working hard, hard, hard at driving more traffic to my page (I am the original poster). My advertiser is a wonderful guy and, sadly, I DO expect to lose him. He has been great to work with, and it would be nice to help him get some business if I can.

I learned about the "pre-sale" page just a few days ago and thought I'd give it a shot. I like dcristo's thoughts on writing an honest review and explaining why the product (a massage) was so very nice. I just don't know what else to put in the pre-sale page. But, yes, you are right. I am likely to lose the advertiser. Just giving it one last try--he's a good guy.

You can be very good at it, or you can have a #1 copywriter write one for you, but it still will not help you if not enough are reading it in the first place.

You can have presell pages allllllllll over the place, but, again, if not enough folks are reading them....

    Make sense?

Can you show your site, and where his ad is?

It may help if his ad was moved to a better location on the page(s), and or have a better-looking ad.

If you do lose him, perhaps you can get him back when you are able to get more traffic and or find someone who is good at ad placments, and the look of them.

Do you have contact details (e.g. email) for your site visitors/members? If so, you could send them an email with a direct endorsement.

Yes, thank you, It DOES make sense. I am running about 900-1,000 visits/day. I was hoping that would be enough. I have worked hard to get my traffic up.

And, yes, my site is http://tucsononthecheap.com. The ad is the one on top right (It's the one for Power of Touch). I don't know that it matters for this discussion, but my site is hyper-local, and so I thought local ads would work well. Not yet.

    Thank you for your help.

Yes, I DO have an e-mail subscription list, although my RSS readers are higher. In earlier posts I have told my readers what a terrific service the man has. My advertiser has sponsored several contests and has given away some free massages. That gives me a chance to tell people that he really is good.

    Thank you.

IMHO, your advertiser isn't a good fit for that page on your site. Your site's tagline is "A Bargain-Hunter's Guide to Inexpensive Fun in Tucson" and your advertiser is promoting getting professional massage in your home. Problem is, a good chunk of bargain hunters may be tourists.

Not sure what your advertiser is charging but a lot of bargain hunters wouldn't think the massage therapy prices are a bargain. Massage pricing is a common objection that therapists hear from prospective clients.

The other thing is... not everyone wants to get a massage at their home. As a former massage therapy center owner, I can tell you that it's about 40% of the total massage clients market. A lot of massage clients don't want to worry about tidying up their house... or finding the space for the therapist to set up a massage table in their home... or dealing with noise from their children or pets while they're getting a massage.

My advice would be to get that advertiser set up on a different part of your site... something like "best ways to unwind in Tuscon".

    Hope that helps,

    Mike
