    1. Find target market and keyword ( google adword)
    2. Include those keyword in site content and meta tags (don't spam)
    3. Post your into different high PR like Social bookmarking, Article, Blog Post, blog commenting and last but not least forum
    4. monitor your keyword in your favorite search engine
If you are facing high competition in ranking your keyword than do more quality linking. This process will help you more in better ranking

You should do some research to know the keywords that people will use to find your website. Then place those keywords in your meta tags, title and description. Also make sure you use your keywords in your URL and within articles that are posted on your site. As others have suggested, you can use the Google keywords tool. You can also use Wordtracker. SEO Elite is not free but does a good job.

Learn to do onsite SEO 1st as a beginning will help you take advantages in long term SEO .
Try to use more keywords around density up to 3 % at least and make sure it quality and unique !!!!

Then you only focus on build quality backlinks. To get no 1 in the Google, is not easy while you need to participate more in gov and edu site in order to get in to 1st SERP in Google.
Usually it hard to do it in the shortime unless your target keywords is niche enough and low competitors.

Like other people have said: Figure out which keywords you'll need for your website. Also look at the competition by searching the keywords in google and looking at the total results at the bottom. Obviously the less competition, the easier it will be to ran\k for those keywords. Google Adwords Keywords tool is very useful and free. Other programs like Market Samurai, Micro Niche Finder, and Suggestion scrapers can automate the process and make it a lot easier, but nothing replaces good old fashioned research. Look around and see what people in your demographic are searching for, where there finding answers, and where there coming from. Google Analytics can really help with this on your website. You should also optimize the SEO of your website as much as possible and get backlinks from other big websites. These things alone will help your keyword ranking.

Not even going to try and read the eye sore... not even going to bother with this one as you already have the wrong ingredients... don't think quick term... and don't be so lazy to ask here - as it's been asked a 1000 times and the answers are always the same dribble... Search in Google or find a decent mentor...

I see more and more awkward things from Google each day. Short term strategies are less and less efficient and authority sites are more powerful. Ebay entered at least 5 first pages for some keywords I am working for.
