How to win a doomed company's customer?

    Hi all,

I really need your marketing prowess on this one. :)

Here's the scenario. A very large company (company X) is involved in a legal dispute and may soon have to STOP accepting new customers. This presents another company offering similar services (company Y) with an opportunity to entice the doomed company's customers to switch – if you think this "doomed company" may eventually have to shutdown, you may look for a new service provider.

Can you please please think about what campaign to use so that Company Y can entice Company X's customer to switch. And to also tell people that Company Y has a special offer for Company X customers that are willing to switch.

Thank you very much. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it depends what business you are in. From the looks of it, you mean supplying people with internet access.

In this case, I would say if they switched, give them a little something for transferring. Maybe like $10 off original price, free accelerated Internet speed for 2 months free(if you have that), or maybe just the first month free(with a 6-month contract of course).

Possibilities are endless. Personally, I would go with the one month free. But make sure you get the contracts.

Besides finding out where your competition advertises and who their target demographic is, I don't think you can use a more direct approach. Depending on your jurisdiction there is a type of lawsuit the competitor can file against you: tortious interference with contract.

Assuming that Company Y is already an established/respected site, what do you think is the best approach so that Company Y can entice customers to switch? (besides giving discount, etc)

What do you think should Company Y do so that it can announce to the world that they're offering better service than company X?

I post on multiple forums all of the time? What one community might say may not match anothers, it's good to get lots of opinions.

I'm looking for ideas, you know. Just don't answer if you don't have anything to good to say.
