how to valuate the domain value ? My friend currently has a domain and its very catchy and appealing celebrity based domain for sure according to robtex, the current back-order price is $1000, I am not sure if one would really pay such an amount for the domain. Its currently ranked around 325k in alexa and doesn't have many backlinks especially from yahoo r google as its more of an adult celeb blog if there is an offer any close to the price, my friend is ready to sell the domain so I would like to know how to proceed on the same ? I just tried to find some info but was pretty much un-successful in my bid I haven't been much into domain selling business but some info would really do good just for the info: my friend doesn't have an google analyticor on for his site, its actually blog, so I am not sure about the exact stats, as there is no other stats add-on turned other than stats plugin of wp he doesn't intend to sell the content, only the domain could be on for a sale if a good offer arrives 1. usually there are hits of min. 2k and max. of 8.5k per day 2. around 500 - 800 unique users a day 3. registrar godaddy I just want to know the info, based on it I could recommend my friend on further proceedings
The first thing I would do as an interim would be to place some adsense on it for thye following reasons. Firstly, it might, just might generate some cash but secpondly (and more importantly) it will give you more ao0f a feel as to how many "human pages" get served by the site ervy day. This when you divide it by the number of ad placements per page will give you a fairly accurate picture of how mucyh traffic the site really gets. This will then in turn help you to value the site more comprehensively
I would suggest installing Google analytics for a while, the more in-depth and long term traffic details you have the easier it is to sell a domain
Certainly but a more immediate sign would be how many ad impressions it serves on a daily basis hence the suggestion re Adsense
You could indeed but at the end of the day its human traffic that is going to make a real difference and the best indicator of that is how many ad impressions, human visitors generate
thanks for the suggestion mate, yeah I would try to get it added pretty soon, if he can't find time regarding others replies, thanks for the replies but u have mis-understood the topic, I am not asking how to generate cash, I am asking how to valuate a domain to sell it. My friend is already making more than a decent revenue from his site.
To me it sounds more like you're trying to sell a website, not just a domain. In some cases domain sales can be based on backlinks and traffic, but usually the domain's value is in the name and how it can be used.
For my part you might have misunderstood what I was saying, for which I apologise. My view from experience is that there are only three ways of valuing a web site. 1. If someone is prepared to pay a fair price (or silly price) for the domain name (if so put it out at Moniker or Snap Names with a suggested reserve and see how it goes. 2. If someone has a business that closely approximates your website and therefore can monetise the members / and or traffic therefore the human traffic is valuable (hence my suggestion about Adsense, not for the monetisation rather an indicator of how many human visitors / eyeballs your site gets). Too often folks quite silly traffic figures that are more Bot powered and not human powered therefore the stats are worthless as they can't be monetised. 3. Finally as a multiple of revenue usually 12 times Monthly revenue or upwards. Hope this clarifies where I am coming from. I'm not suggesting adsense for the revenue just that it is probably the quickest guide of what commercial activity / potential is going on thats all. Analystics / stats will only tell you part of the story and then not all of it. As the going says, "There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics" The only other aspect of google analytics is that they are not always accurate themselves as they only kick into gear when the piece of php / javasscript loads or renders. If the viewer leaves the site before this happens or the server has timing poroblems then it won't load and therefore won't record any data. You'd be better off studying the server logs which are driven by a different more internal process and nowadys are getting almost every bit as good as Google web analytics.
You know, sometimes you only learn the value of a website or domain when you find someone willing to pay the price you ask.
thanks for the replies and good solid piece of information actually if you read my first post, I had stated its an adult based blog/site, so its not possible to add adsense into it. actually, I don't want to sell the website, its the same reason I mentioned, content is not up for sale and only domain name. The domain name is too catchy and a famous one with the name celebs in it, its a 3 word, 12 letter domain with no hyphens.
