How to use keywords?

    Hi guys,
I got listed in Google today which I'm happy about! :)

Can someone explain keywords? ie. I appear in Google if someone types New Music Monthly & then I am the fourth one down. How do I choose what other keywords my site will appear for?
Sorry about the probably very stupid questions!

    Thanks:cool:

You should start reading as much as you can about seo. You will need to start building links with your target phrases as link anchor text. So if you want to rank well for 'new music' you'll want to get lots of links that say 'new music'. Keep varying the link anchor text though. If you get too many links with one phrase you may get penalized for over-optimization. Also keep in mind that link quality is more important than link quality. So you need to find ways to get links from trusted websites. There are many ways to build links....directories, articles, press releases, social bookmarking, social networking, forum signatures, blog commenting, link baiting, etc. Ideally you would use a few different strategies to build links. Relevant links are better than non-relevant links.

The best place to start is the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, type in your keyword phrase and it will return a list of terms with their average search volume. If your site is primary an information site where your revenue will be coming from AdSense then you could also look at the CPC click-through rates. I would NOT look at generic words as it will take forever.

I would look at going for long tailed keywords, i.e. 3-4 keyword phrased words.

If you have a budget available you can subscribe to Wordtracker which will help otherwise you will have to do a lot of manual work to find th ebest keywords. From expereince, I would always advise people to make sure you spend a LOT of quality time doing 'good' research as this could make or break your site's traffic. Target the wrong keywords and its all over, target the correct 'golden nuggets' and you could be on a winner.

Good luck with all your endeavours.

If you have already optimized your site for certain keywords, the keyword list for which you are targeting your website is already there with you. Insert each keyword in Goggle search engine to check your website rank in Google.

There are various keyword selection tool.
They are Google Adword and word tracker etc.
Among both Google Adword is very nice and gives more relevant result.
In Adword we can find keyword by directly giving URL of our website or by typing any one keyword phrase of our site.
Its really very nice tool and will help a lot.

you should try long tail keyword.
this way, you can easily get good rank for that particular keyword.
But make sure. it is a high search keyword and low competition.

yeah, I agree with pixelcrafter. Check out the keywords you're using. Make sure it's high search keyword BUT low competition. Check out how many sites are appearing when you typed in the keywords in Google. It's your gauge about competition against other websites or blogs.
