How To Use Facebook

I've been using Facebook for a while, but I stopped using it a few months ago.

Since I have one account, most of my friends and family (and former friends from school and so on) have added me as a friend together with people I've met online.

This makes it really hard. My friends and family are Norwegian, people I've met online (mostly related to marketing) are not. If I use English, and write about marketing, my friends won't be interested. If I use Norwegian, most of my Facebook friends won't understand what I'm writing.

My questions are this: Do you use several accounts? One for your marketing/business, and one for personal use?

... how do you separate business and personal use on Facebook?

No, I do not have more then one account. Nor do I separate my personal and business life.

I look at it like this, when I post a blog, or a youtube video, that person is the same one that you will see at my house. Its just different sides of the same person. My facebook account is a reflection of who I really am. I'am a person and I own a few websites.

On my facebook account I post watermarked videos and pictures with my website name. But I also make comments on my friends and families profiles. Most of my friends and family know that I own some forums and blogs, and its no big deal to them.

When I post some off the wall video, they say - "thats just kevin off doing his own little thing."

    Create 2 account..

    1. Personal account : take care and be sweet "user"
    2. Business aka SPAM account : create hot profile and post your link and CPA any where, everywhere

I would advise having at least 2 account.
One for business etc.. and the other for private.
Do you really want people you know in business reading that you are having a BBQ at the weekend?

i think facebook is better for branding purposes, i don't think you'll get far spamming your cpa links. users won't click links + bash ppl who they don't know/trust that repeatably spam their CPA links.

If I have two accounts, how do you separate the two by name?

One of the accounts should be my real name, so all my friends will find it.

The other account should be my business name, but what if I don't have one? Should I add the name of one of my blogs?

    Thanks

I am finding Facebook to be a great tool for networking and connecting with people.

Since I started using last fall, I have connected with old friends, family members, new associates and some pretty big names. With Facebook, you can make contact with people who might otherwise be very difficult to reach.

I've added over 1000 friends, started a handful of groups and have discovered how to post items so others can see what I am up to.

But there is a dark side to Facebook.

I get bombarded with invitations to stupid applications, like Werewolves, Zombies and Slayers.

I add someone as my friend and pretty soon I am inundated with requests to compare my movie tastes or find out how "hot" I am.

And there is nothing worse than someone who invites you to every ridiculous application under the sun.

It's Facebook spam, and I have had...

    ENOUGH!

There are two questions that I have been asking others about Facebook.

    1) How do I delete and/or block a "friend" from my list?

    2) How do I block being invited to annoying applications?

    First things first.

I have had to delete a few people whose "Facebook friendship" has turned to harrassment.

    Here's how you delete someone.

    Click to their profile.

If they are as annoying as you think, you will encounter a very long page filled with every kind of nonsense under the sun.

Scroll ALL the way to the bottom of the page and you will find a handy-dandy link in the bottom left corner.

It is conveniently labeled "Remove from Friends"

    Click it with great joy!

Now, what if someone sends you annoying unsolicited messages via Facebook?

Click on the message and just next to the offender's photo is a link that says "Report message".

When you click this link, you will have an opportunity to permanently block this individual from contacting you on that account. Easy!

Ok, so what about the applications from hell?

You CAN block all invites from individual applications! It's true!

Go to the application that you wish to erase from the face of the earth.

In my case, the applications include Werewolves, Zombies, Vampires and Slayers.

You can do a search and then check the applications results.

    Click "view application".

And there it is. On the right side just a few links below the large "Add Application" button.

There is a link that says "block application" and it is your link of salvation.

    Click it.

Then you can smile knowing that the application will never again darken your profile.

Of course, you can groan when you realize that there are hundreds more applications that your so-called friends will be inviting you to join.

Ah, well. It's not a perfect world. but hopefully these tips will make your Facebook experience just a little more enjoyable.

I have only made one sale off of the FB.

It was without trying to sell though.

    Thats the key.

Use pre-launch tactics before you even
mention your affiliate product (or your own)

    Cheers.

Facebook is widely used for personal communication and has not yet grasped the concept of effectively using the site as a tool for promoting your site unless you're either a worldwide established company that will attract a large fan base i.e coca-cola or using their ppc services.

I would recommend that you use Twitter and Linkedin instead- that way you can keep facebook relevant to friends and promote your brand in places that people are more interested.

@candise if you want to block or remove some of your friends. Go to Friends > All Friends then click the 'X' button. Or when someone has an update click the hide button in the upper right corner.

I personally like to keep business and pleasure separate, so I have 2 FB accounts. I suppose it depends on the type of business you are in, and your lifestyle/personality. If you are running an investment company for example, then maybe you don't want your customers reading about your latest drunken exploits!

Me personally I wouldn't want to send my friends links to my latest resources, only for them to take the piss and publicly lampoon then!

I think you need to think long and hard about whether it is appropriate for you to mix business and pleasure on FB. I'm sure it can work for some, but if you are in any doubts, then perhaps it's best to keep them apart.

Has anyone found out how to put anchor text on facebook?
I guess it wouldn't matter though unless your profile page had a good PR ranking.

You could use face book for your link promotion. You can create a community related to your site get more friends to visit it.

It is an established fact that Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites today. Some social networking sites are personal and some formal, but Facebook is a mix of both. It has a major impact on business primarily because the creating pages and groups as a marketing/educational/promotional aspect is free and effective compared to some of the paid advertising methods. Facebook can be used effectively to build a business presence and influence the target audience.http://blogs.position2.com/leveraging-facebook-for-better-business-branding
