    :) Hello fellow Cybernators
I am brand spanking new to all of this, but i'm willing to learn and maybe one day myself, i can give something back. I currently have a website, it's early days, in fact it's PC 2000 BC, it's that early for me.
I have noticed that on the majority of websites, you can scroll and scroll and scroll all the way down the pages, on mine you can't, and also on the majority of websites, the whole page can be utilised, for i:e more links, advertisement and even more content, on mine, it's just the middle area. Please if someone can look at the site, they will see what i mean, i am no where near utilising the whole webspace available, i guess i'm sourcing any advice there is available. I built my site using serif software if this helps jog any memories or even other situations, you may know of, or have even gone through yourself.

    Thank you very much

    James

    Hi James,

Firstly welcome to the forums! You'll love it here :)
Just had a quick look at your site. It looks quite good and if this is your first website you have done very well, I think a lot of people would agree that it's much better than most first attempts (including mine).

As for the scrolling, the fact that you don't need to scroll down on your site isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact it's a huge positive. If you can fit your content into one snapshot then that's great, and if you can break it up into pages then this makes it easier for your visitors to find what they are looking for via the navigation menu.

The world wide web is an advanced form of communication and is always growing and changing. We are at a point now where simple is so much more powerful than countless rows of text/content. Remember at school when you would get marked down for blabbering on in an essay and the teacher would insist "quality over quantity" - it's still the case, even more so in a marketing sense such as websites.

One thing that does worry me is that you are using images for paragraph's instead of text, this isn't good for Google (and other search enginge) rankings as their "bots" can't read images, so they can't figure out what content you have.

I don't know what this "serif software" is that your using but you should try looking on the internet for some HTML tutorials. It's a very simple language to get the grasp of, then look for some CSS tutorials, an even simpler language that lets you do all sorts with the appearance of your site. If you find all that too easy, hit the hard stuff; PHP, ASP, Java, and MySQL databases. I always found www.tizag.com really helpful, and I still use it every now and then. Another great site that will prove useful is www.w3schools.com.

    Good luck,
    Michael
