You Just need a free hosting service with C-panel Feature, but why Don't U try Paid Hosting service it more Reliability, Support etc.. then, you must continue to do setting / managing the direction of your NS domain.
Free wordpress hosting meaning wordpress.com? Buy the domain and point it to the nameservers they ask you to point it to. I don't think you can place ads on xyz.wordpress.com even if you choose to buy a domain of your own and host it with them. Just confirm it with their support though.
Crete CNAME records pointing to wordpress . After domain propagation ,add your custom domain from dashboard .Here You can't put your ads , custom themes , plugins etc .
