How to Upgrade Wordpress Through C-Panel Fantastico?

I installed Wordpress with Fantastico and now they have a new version, and I don't really know how to upgrade. Can I upgrade using Fantastico?

If so, would I need to back it up? I tried earlier, but it said I had to change permissions for a lot of files including public html, and I didn't want to go through all of that until I knew exactly what I was doing.

Open Fantastico, click Wordpress and there should be a link "Upgrade" next to the installation.

Doesn't using Fantastico to upgrade wipe out any modifications you've made? I would think it would even write over any new template you've been using in addition to any plugins you've installed.

The templates & plugins are not touched - only WP files (release) are written over.

If you have made modifications to the php files-- it will overwrite those files. Use my-hack... to prevent corruption of core WordPress program files.

If that's so, then why doesn't Wordpress advertise this as being the easiest way?

airraid81 --I have several hacks. Most notable, the archives pull and the code to generate the desktop style calendar I use with each post.

Because not all hosts have Fantastico. There is also a plugin called instant upgrade that will upgrade your WP to the latest version.

It only takes a couple of minutes to upgrade manually though

Didn't see the upgrade link. There was only a new installation link that didn't work since it's already installed.
