How To Upgrade From phpBB to vBulletin?

Discussion in 'vBulletin' started by mdvaldosta, Aug 18, 2006.

I'm getting ready to embark on my first upgrade from phpBB to vBulletin. I've backed up everything, deleted the old files (other than the database) and have uploaded vBulletin. What now? What do I do with impex? Do I install vBulletin, get in running, then import? A rough step-by-step would be cool.

I just did this ( www.mp2kmag.com/mappoint/discussion to www.mapforums.com ) so I should be able to help you.

First buy your vBulletin license and get that bit straightened away.

Now, install vBulletin at the new place whether on the same server or not.

    Next install Impex.

If you are going to a new server, you will need to copy over the mySQL database, for me it was big I guess and this was not trivial, my target ISP had to do the load for me.

    Run the Impex stuff.

The great thing is that you have support. If you get throttled into a corner, you can probably figure it out, but what if you want help?

Configure and make your new forums cool :)
