How to trust a coder

I have a script that me and my old coder (and a very good friend) put together. I have put thousands and thousands in developing the script, but now I'm alone with the script...
I still need a coder, but how could I trust a coder with my script? There are so many scammers out there... What would stop him from just taking the script and running? I was lucky that I had a great coder once who I could trust, but finding another one is a real pain!

    give him small job first

    Then increase slowly

you cannot buy trust using money

    Its hit and trial method

Honestly, you'd be better not to find one online unless your willing to hire a semi-known/known company to do it.

Get one you can speak face to face to, pay him a wage, and there you are.

With the amount of scammers about it's hard to choose a decent coder.

A small offshore company is the best move. Try them on some small jobs. Go there and meet them before starting the big job.

Maybe you can break the job up into modules.

Either find a coder in your local area you can actually meet and get to know, or like people say, give them small jobs and build up some trust with them first

you could also go to getafreelancer and hire a user that has a high rating ;) i've found a lot of trustable users there.

Get them to sign a NDA (non-disclosure agreement) beforehand.
