    Buying domains and using Namecheap? Here are some pointers...

    I just checked the namecheap.com knowledgebase for general tips on how to transfer domains there, but the article:http://namecheap.simplekb.com/kb.aspx?show=category&articleid=0&categoryid=18
    ... is empty

    Not really what you expect from a large professional company.

    So I emailed them and here is their canned response for everyone's reference:

    In order to transfer domain to NameCheap:

    - please make sure your domain is at least 60 days old and hasn't been transferred in the last 60 days (please make sure current registrar has no additional rules to block outgoing domain transfers (GoDaddy are 'famous' about that));
    - please make sure your domain will not expire within 8 days;
    - please make sure it is unlocked;
    - please make sure you have removed all whois privacy features;
    - please make sure Admin contact for said domain has a valid emailbox which is frequently checked;
    - get an EPP/Auth code for your domain;
    - start the transfer procedure from the NameCheap's site;
    - approve the transfer by clicking on appropriate link in the email you'll receive to the Admin mailbox;
    - please allow up to 5 days for transfer to finish, after the final approval.

    2 reasons to use namecheap:
    - They usually have coupons you can find through a google search (or look here: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/namecheap.com ) for one of the cheapest .com domain registrations you can find.
    - The account is super intuitive and easy to use if you have lots of domains.
    - You can easily add whois privacy for all your domains.

    Oh, that's 3 reasons. No one expects the domainer's inquisition!
