Hi, I have pushed the domain to another registrar. Right now, I understand that I have to transfer the blog database(s), and the files. The problem is that how can I choose the correct database(s) and transfer it? Please advise me how to transfer the database and files. Thank you.
Go to your control panel and select phpMyAdmin and select the database. Click on the database, click export and be sure that "add drop table" is selected under Structure. Then under "Save File As" I'd suggest saving it as both none and zipped just in case. There's probably something that explains it better on youtube. I almost forgot, you need to create a new mysql database on the new hosting account and enter that info into config.php
If you are using cPanel hosting you can usually just download a complete backup. Give this to your new host and they will usually upload it for you. If not this is a great time to use Youtube for something useful. There are video tutorials on how to do this.
Do you find your current web hosting provider unreliable and not good for hosting Wordpress? Or are you just going to move from Wordpress.com to a self-hosted Wordpress blog? If yes, you have made a good decision, as self hosted Wordpress blog will give you much more freedom. I will explain you in this quick guide on how to do it properly. As for the web hosting company to host your Wordpress blog, I would choose BlueHost. They also recommend it as the #1 Wordpress web host right on Wordpress.org. A) Migrating to a new web host Install Wordpress on your new hosting account, upload the theme and plugins (or just upload the entire wp-content folder). Backup your Wordpress blog's MySQL database - in your CPanel use phpMyAdmin for this and then just import the database to your new blog and you should be fine. B) Moving to a self hosting Wordpress.org blog from Wordpress.com Just sign up for a new web hosting plan with a good web hosting company. For hosting a Wordpress blog you will need a MySQL database and PHP - e.g. BlueHost has all this. Install Wordpress - a good way to do it is to use Fantastico. You can check my other tutorial on this for more info - WP install tutorial If you have more than a few posts on your Wordpress.com blog and don't want to just copy and paste them on your new self hosted WP blog, do the following: In your wordpress.com blog admin panel go to Manage > Export and download the export file. Then in your wordpress.org admin panel click Manage > Import and upload the file. Good luck with your newly hosted WP blog!
When exporting and importing your Wordpress database you need to remember to edit the wp-config.php file on the new hosting provider and change the database prefix to match the one in the export you selected. Using MyPHPAdmin as others suggested is far better than doing a Wordpress post export, but the most time consuming is remembering to migrate and copy over all of your wp-content/uploads wp-content/themes and wp-content/plugins files from your old hosting provider to your new one, if you have a well established blog you could have a large amount of images/media files that need to be copied over that are local files and not in the database.
You can use the tools>export on your old wordpress then to the new wordpress wp-admin>tools>import. This will import all the posts, attachments, users and comments on the site. Although the plugin settings will not be imported. If you really want all to imported, use phpmyadmin and export the whole database (.sql file) then import it on the mysql on the new server.
What control panel do you use in your old and new host? If they are compatible (for example like cPanel), you may generate the complete backup and restore the entire hosting to the new hosting server. Then you just have to update the DNS of the domain to point to the new name servers.
There are many ways. 1. instant way: hosting the customer service told to move it 2. normal way * backup the old file and extract it to a new hosting * create a new database. import database and search for article:: import:: go * open wp-config.php, and adjust the database name, database user and password * Done
