Hello dear DP members, I get lots of questions about how to transfer a website successfully. I want to help everyone and I do help all my clients and I decided to share here a really simple guide how to transfer a website from one cPanel to another and also how to transfer a domain name. I know lots of people are struggling with this and even it is a reason why some of them avoid to purchase websites cuz they bother about getting the website working. With this guide I hope I will help anyone who faces this issue. Ok, let's start. Step 1 Now when you buy a website the first thing is to transfer the domain to your account. Let's imagine you are the buyer and the domain registrar is GoDaddy.com. The domain transfer process has to be done by the previous owner of the website. You have to give him your GoDaddy email and customer number. After he has your details he transfers the domain and you have to accept it. You will receive an email and what you have to do is to just accept that domain to go to your account. That's it. It is quite simple, right . Step 2 Now when you have your domain in your account you have to point it to your web hosting servers. Go to your GoDaddy account and check the domain you just purchased. There is a little arrow next to the domain name. Click on it and a drop down menu appears. Click on SET NAMESERVERS and set your hosting nameservers. You should have in mind that after changing the nameservers it may take some time until the domain is on your servers. You can check if it is when you go to whois.domaintools.com. Step 3 Ok, now your domain is on your servers and you are ok to start the transfering process. You have the website's files and database. Here is what you should do. This guide is for cPanel users. - Go to your cpanel and add the website as an ADD ON domain - Go to database wizard on your cpanel and create a new database. - Upload the site's files via ftp in the directory of the add on domain you have added. - Go to php Myadmin and choose the database you have created for this website (you will see it on the left side). Click IMPORT and choose the database I have sent you from your computer. - Go to cpanel's FILE MANAGER and locate the website's directory (usually in public html). Find the file WP-CONFIG.php and open it in editor mode. Now you have to edit the database NAME, USER and PASSWORD. Just replace them with the new database details which you created earlier. Your website is live now!
