How to transfer a site from Yahoo to Hostgator. Not the domain, but the actual site.

    Hello,

    I'm trying transfer a friends site for him and what he did was register the domain through Yahoo and after a Whois search on GKG.net I found that he is also using Yahoo servers for hosting.

    Now, I have transferred the domain to my hostgator server for him but I cannot seem to figure out where Yahoo hides the Cpanel login information. I tried to ftp into his site with the login information that he has for the domain registration information i.e to sign into Yahoo small business and I don't see anything.

    My question is how do I get to his Public_Html folder etc. on Yahoo servers?

    Thanks!

    Mark

    That's the problem, I tried logging in via ftp and when I entered the login username and password that is associated with the Yahoo small business account and it didn't work. Where can I find the information on yahoo's small business area?

    Hey Liza, that fine if you biggy back off my thread.

    For everyone,

    I have transfered sites before in the past no problem I understand how to that process, what I cannot figure out is how to access Yahoo server that my friends site is on. I cannot figure out how to access the HTML files or any of that.

    Here is what I have done as far as FTP goes:

    I have entered the URL of the site. I then used the password and username that he gave me. I figured out that the Username and Password that he provided me with are ones that belong to the Yahoo Small Business Account that he has because he purchased his domain through Yahoo.

    If you are still unsure of what I need I will put it another way. I know that for hostgator you access your cpanel by typing in www.adfaf.com/CPANEL. Yahoo does not work that way, how do I get to the "Cpanel" of a yahoo hosted site? Once I get to that part I can ask my friend for that login information and then FTP with that information.

    I hope I made this a little more clear.

    Thanks!

    Mark

    Easy, Goto backups on your Hostgator CPanel and ''Download FULL Directory'' that includes SQL, Emails, FTP and etc. Easiest and organized way.

    Well back up your home directory. Then make a full backup of the Yahoo cpanel and restore it to hostgators cpanel and restore your home directory.

    That's the problem, I can't figure out how to access the Yahoo Cpanel. I have never used a site that was hosted on a yahoo server therefore I don't know how to gain access to it. I just need to know that part.

    From the Yahoo Help page:

    Your FTP settings are the keys that allow you to access your account with an FTP tool. Each GeoCities Plus customer has a unique collection of settings; you can find yours on the Create & Update and Manage tabs of your GeoCities Control Panel.

    Your settings look like this:

    * host or address: ftp.geocities.com
    * user or login: your Yahoo! ID
    * password: the password you use to sign in to your Yahoo! account

    @ArteDeco,

    I think you've come the closet to understanding my issue, I went to the domain you mentioned but I don't think that's right. Try going to it yourself you will see what I mean, I cannot explain it.

    Please, I really need to just transfer this site already, Yahoo hosting so is so dumb, why do they make it so hard to just access the server your crap is stored on...that's all I need to do, I just need to access the server my friends site is stored on.

    It's not dumb at all. Basically you do a FULL HOME restore is you have it. Goto ''Backups'' and you will see restore home directory then you will need to restore your MYSQL if you have one. Accessing the public_html you goto the file manager part. Hope that helps.
