Hey guys, I just got a hosting account from a friend of mine who owns a dedicated server, and I need to edit my domains nameservers of course however I want to experience little downtime. Can someone give me tips on how I can prevent big blocks of downtime occurring? Thanks, Nick.
Make sure all the files for your website are uploaded to the new hosting account. Then switch the nameservers. Until DNS is updated, visitors will be directed to your old host. Once DNS is updated they go to your new host. There's no down time since your website is being displayed on both hosts.
Move all your files to the new account using the ip and cpanel login. Then change your nameservers. You will have 0 downtime. The problem is with DB based sites. For this to work you have to take the DB offline. Be sure to get the ip# of your current host in case you need to get back into that account for something you missed. Just ping your domain to get the current IP#. edit: that is twice in 30 minutes that snowbird and I have crossposted to the same thread and he types faster.
There should be no downtime in changing name servers. Just make sure your new host has the website all setup there when the nameservers change. What Register are your names with?
First You have to Transfer Files From One Server To another Then YOu Have tO Change DNS of Your Domain Form CP..
