Hi, I am exchanging links with other sites and want to keep track of them so that other webmasters don't remove them. Is there any good free software for this which can really ease the work for me ? Thanks
there are 3 ways to track people linking back to you: - choose a script with such ability (checkout hotscripts.com, sourceforge.net, berlios.de, etc.) - do a follow-up with an online tool designed on purpose - download software able to do this, such as this: http://www.webmastersloom.com/free-reciprocal-link-checker-software but there are many others if you do a reseach at downloads.com
And what's so great about it? Specifically, does the tool check for rel="nofollow"? or if the Web page with my link on it is being indexed at all? or against any other little trick that can destroy the value of the link in terms of link popularity? Warkot
Oh brother... Take a look at the top of this thread, please. The question was about a *free* reciprocal link checker. ARELIS costs around $300 for multiple sites. To the best of my knowledge, this does not qualify as *free*. And since you started talking about commercial software... Personally, I find LinkAssistant a great link exchange tool, and for the record, it does check for rel="nofollow" and other stuff, not just if a link exists or not. I recently used LinkAssistant to check one of my sites. 30% of my link partners were using rel="nofollow", meaning 30% of my links were useless for me in terms of improving rankings. Can ARELIS do that? Didn't think so. Warkot
I also use LA - it's cool, but not free - so, doesn't match your requirements... And AFAIK there's no good free software for these purposes at all. If someone knows any good FREE tools - I'd like to take a look at them
you can have a script with such ability. there are many out there. just do a search at hotscripts.com
I agree, a free script is definitely an option. One disadvantage with scripts is that you have to meddle with its installation on your server. With desktop apps you can start right away. Hotscripts.com is great, but last time I checked (about a month ago) I couldn't find a free (or commercial) reciprocal link checker there that takes into account rel="nofollow" for instance. Warkot
Here's a script I used some time ago: http://www.idioteex.com/links/rle/link_to_us.php Download this script for free: http://www.e-axis-inc.com/bonus/link_exchange.zip Have fun
