Contact your competitor saying that you provide free advise on monetizing website and would be happy to advise him if he can connect his website analytics to your email .... if you are lucky and he is not... (!) then you might just ... ahem.. just get more lucky No free or paid tool for it AFAIK. All the best!
When I want to check competitors traffic, or also have an idea of it, I try Google AdPlanner is a free tool, but usually works online for big websites that expose adsense banners. Traffic showed in Adplanner can be reliable but consider a percentage of error on their stats, you know for privacy purpose and similar.
Alexa would also give an overview of traffic of any website.. You can use "websiteoutlook.com" as well, to know the traffic of a website.... but no tool would give you exact reporting like you get report from Google Analytic or StatCounter.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree about alexa ... they started off interesting in as much as their positioning of you against competitors but after running a lot of sites big n large their traffic estimates are off by 50% - 95% in my experience. - David
