Hi, Sometimes I get link exchange requests from websites, but I can't always be sure that they are using a normal link or adding the rel=nofollow tag, rendering the link quite useless. Is there any way of checking to see if the link is using the nofollow command? I've tried viewing the source code but when the site is a blog its harder to tell. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks for any help
In a blog you are right it will be more difficult what I choose to do is pull up the source code and copy it into a basic html editor form and then either search for it by text or run a debug program to find it. There are some free resources on websites that will be able to tell you how many links you have I am not sure if Alexa's free tools will be able to discern the difference and also you have to weigh in the fact of when was the last time those pages containing your link were crawled
yeah maxerg is right view source then click CTRL + F then type the url of your site and take a look if its flagged as nofollow
I had for a time a plugin for Firefox which did the job of showing me the links with no follow or do follow but I forgot its name, maybe someone here which uses it can help you more..
Just use this http://seopro.com.au/free-seo-tools/link-checker/ Type in your URL, check the nofollow box and you can tell who is giving you nofollow.
I just use Firebug (for firefox). inspect the box w/ the link, look for no follow. source code works too, but this is a little faster for me.
THe other way is to use this software ibusiness Promoter to build your link exchanges - it is easy to use and easy to check links and will also reject "no follow" links if you check the box
The firefox plugin name is "searchstatus". It tells pagerank, compete rank and alexa + so many good features like no follow, whois. Just install it once and you will love it
seoquake with FFox works great . It saves time over the source code and has been completely accurate so far.
Thanks to everyone who didn't suggest that I viewed the source code. As I mentioned in my post it is quite awkward to do this when a blog is linking to you, especially considering that the code is not always viewable. I've added the Firefox extension and it works great, thanks
Other than using the Firefox extension SeoQuake to detect the use of the nofollow relationship attribute, you should also verify whether the robots meta tag doesn't have 'nofollow' or 'none' in it and whether the page carrying the hyperlink is blocked through the robots.txt file. Mind you, SeoQuake only works on the relationship attribute, but not on the other methods for nofollowing links! In that light, the Firefox extension SearchStatus is much better.
