How To Tell? Directories

How to tell if the current hit on directories also hurt the outbound links in those specific directories. I have a site with many directory links submitted and paid. Old site. Site ranked number one for many popular searches on most pages of the site. The site has many more organic links, but just wondering why it got tripped up in the recent update and only plausible theory I can come up with is that the links in the directories were hurt as well as the directories themselves. How could you tell if this is so? Did anyone else maybe experience this lately?

That is an unknown right now. A recent cache date is a good sign though.

Well my site dropped form google completely. It was going up and up then BANG. It was mainly submitted to web directories.

The only way to tel the effect is to watch you inbound links. f they start disappearing from SEs but the link is still there you know wat is happening.

Maybe if the majority of IBL are from directories, it might be time to worry. Say 100 out of 120, rather than 2 out of 3. (for a new site)

    pure speculation on my part.
