Hi All Is it possible, and even allowed to specifically target a competitors site, through their Google search listing. For Example, if say a competitors website is called "YellowDonkeyPurple.com" , is it possible to set up adwords campaign targeting this term, so that whenever someone typed in "YellowDonkeyPurple" your ad appeared? Also how do people get those pink/samon ads that appear randomly at the top of Google Searches some times?
Yes, lots of advertisers do this. Whether it produces good results, that's another question. It would not be my first option. Ads appear above the SERPs only if they have earned the right to be there, it's not random. The ranking formula is QS (Quality Score) times your bid. So obviously, you must first outrank your competitors. Note that there can be none to 3 ads above the SERPs. Second, there is a QS minimum. Even if you outrank with a high bid, if your QS is not good (appears to be 7 or more), your ad won't show there if your QS is only 6.
if you use spyglass, you will find exactly what keywords they use, how much they pay and how much traffic each keyword is responsible for.
Thanks for the responses everyone, however I still can't understand why my ads arn't appearing when: 1. When I Google Search the specific keyword previously, no ads appeared, suggesting that there is no competition for that particular key word. 2. I have a daily budget of $10 and a Max CPC of 35c 3. My Ad Setting Networks are set to Google Search only 4. It says that my Keywords are eligible 5. It also says that my ad has received zero impressions 6. When I enter the keywords into the Adword preview tool, it says that it doesn't trigger any of my ads Despite all of the above, it still returns nothing when I perform a Google Search for that specific keyword. Is anyone able to tell me why this may be and what I can do to rectify it? Cheers Jake
Upon further review, it says that my ad is "Under Review", so I am tipping this is probably the reason.
