I just released a list of the 100 most influencial sports bloggers and have already gotten 400 hits this morning. How do I harness the power of this traffic and use it to get return visitors?
While great content is key, be proactive about it. Promise them more great content for signing up for their newsletter. Or take it a step further and offer them a free gift for signing up for your newsletter. Now you can send out an email each time you update the site to remind them to come back to it. Congrats on getting a lot of traffic already! -Jason Fladlien
Good response You cant just keep saying content is king and good content will bring them back. The most beneficial factor is to grab them then and there! Offer them a secial deal for subscribing and if you dont have one make it sound special (free subscription to future updates). Update the top o fthe post to welcome new visitors (i assume lots of them are new hence the question). "Welcome new visitors, after you read this article why not check out some of my other popular posts (make a list)". This will show new readers you are always writing good content. Some of these things can help you \convert a much higher percentage of new readers. I believe the most valuable thing you can grab here are new subscribers as they are the ones who will ensure a future profit stream. Hope this helps
He has adsense installed but very little ads on his page. I would start by adding bigger adsense blocks on the page to get more clicks.
Give them a way to remember the site and come back, make a bookmark button for social bookmarking sites.
Optimize your adsense ad as per Google guidelines follow which suits you best. test different adsense blocks and stick with one which gives you more conversion.
Really focus on getting visitors to subscribe to your feed. They need a reason to come back! Good list by the way although http://www.sportsbonehead.com shoulda made the cut
Sorry for hijacking the thread (though is it really hijacking if it's my thread? I guess I'm just changing course a little...) but we were talking about Adsense. I was just wondering how to get rid of the annoying arrows next to my recent comments. http://www.juicedsportsblog.com to see what I'm talking about Blogger puts arrows next to certain kinds of text automatically.
content is the key! as everyone says! i'd also have a mailing list for them to sign up to, so you can send out updates of new articles - that would help get returning visitors.
I've had my newsletter signup up for 2 months and only gotten 12 subscribers. It's in the top right corner and says that you can get unpublished content (true). I fear it might not fit in the sidebar on IE, though.
i'd be tempted to put the 'sign up to mailing list' link directly under your articles - that way if people like what they read they have an opportunity to sign up. just like you would put adsense at the bottom of an article, as it's a great position
