How To Take Advantage Of Good Multiple Domains In SEO

I think if I have multiple domains pointing to one site it will help me rank well

for example if my primary domain is company1dotcom with server IP of (12.34.56). If I point company2dotcom to server IP (12.34.56) this would bring some health into SEO rankings.

(correct me if iam wrong)

Now the problem is, that by doing if visitor types company2dotcom it doesnt show my primary domain as company1dotcom but actually shows up my web pages as company2dotcom/index.htm and not with the primary domain.

How do one can fix that. If somebody can point me to a good tutorial on how to take advantage of additional domains. I'll be very grateful.
