How to submit and update sitemap?

Discussion in 'Google Sitemaps' started by joey2000, Apr 29, 2006.

Hello, I am a newbie in Google Sitemap. I create a sitemap and submitted it two days ago. I add some content today. So, I change the sitemap. Do I have to resubmit the sitemap again? Or the google robot will check it?

    Thanks in advance.

No, you won't have to resubmit the sitemap again. Google will continue to crawl the sitemap and it will notice the changes. Just keep doing what you are doing, new content added to the site, modify the sitemap and upload it, Google takes care of the rest since you have already submitted it once.

unless you have added a new page on your site say you have add a content and save it as content.html on which it is not included in your previous submission of sitemap, then eventaully you need to re-submit your site and let google do the rest.

You won't need to resubmit your sitemap. You submit it once and Google continuously checks it for changes. If you look on your sitemap page it will say the last time it grabbed the file. Submit it once that's it. Upload newer versions with more URLs to your site and Google will notice it.

I just update my sitemap file whenever I add new pages to my site. Other than that, no updates. It may go weeks or months without an update, or it can be daily. So just do it when you add new pages. Add the URLs to your sitemap file and upload it to your server.

Yes...only update your sitemap when it's called for. When pages are added/removed, or when the tree structure of pages change.

Or you can notify google manually using this link
    http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ping?sitemap=www.example.com/sitemap.xml
    Code (markup):
Just replace the location where your sitemap is with yours.

    Thank You
