I am using wordpress 2.0.5 and facing a strange problem on my site, I have installed Math comment spam plugin and set the option that only registered user can post comments but I have seen that these both options isn't working and I am getting lots of spam. Does any one has solution for this do I need to upgrade? thanks
I am seeing a lot of it lately. It is not registered users posting it and you have to register to post a comment. I don't have a clue where it is coming from. Someone must have found an exploit. Are all of yours coming from the same ip?
Akismet Plugin worked great for me. I make sure that all blog comments have to be moderated before they will display and for the most part, akismet catches all of them.
The basic install will allow you to moderate them before they are posted. I just don't want the hassle of deleting the d^%$# things. Especially when they are coming from unregistered posters.
This is what happening with me. I am not sure how to stop them and all spam plugins are failed to stop them too. These comments are not from registered users and comming from same IP so there must be some holes in the script that were exploited.
I just found out that those are track back links spam. I have enabled akismet and disabled the track back links for future posts. Let see how much this helps. thank you guys
Yep, I love Akismet as well. Just make sure to put a nice reminder (possibly in red so that it catches the eyes) that if the user doesn't already have xx posts in their name that it may take time to review their comment. Even the big guys don't have that on their blogs and for a first time reader/commenter, you wonder if the php broke and they never got your comment because you get no notification. I've added some red text with a note and it's worked wonders - no repeat postings from anyone
I prefer Akismet as a great plugin widely used by thousands of wordpress bloggers. I highly recommend Spam Karma 2, recently launched but within no time gained astonishing popularity. Thousands of positive reviews everywhere. If you have these two plugins, I think spam won't think to come on your blog. Enjoy your time!
