    Use a question answer plugin : http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-no-bot-question/
It will stop almost 99% automatic spams.

You can activate the Akismet plug-in which will catch a lot of it. You can also use a captcha plugin to deter bots.

Use the Akismet Plugin. Get an Account from their website and Activate the Plugin.

Spam comments always come in a huge amount and more if you have a lot of traffic coming to your website. The Akismet Plugin will put them in the Spam Folder so it will be easy to dump out all of the spam comments at once.

Sometimes I would go through the spam comments in the Spam Folder to see if there is a good comment marked as spammy accidentally - it happens very rarely though.

I believe the Akismet Plugin is all you need to sort out the spam comments from the good ones. It has worked for me for years!

    Hope this helps!

    I wish you the best!

    Cheers!

I would add an additional strategy here, maybe sounding a bit strange but... have you considered disabling comments for a bit? I did it on a blog of mine, and spammers stopped pinging for comments since they were not enabled. You can do that of course if you don't mind too much for comments.

You can use captcha or security questions that will help lessen the spammers.
