How To Stop Spammers Comments On Wordpress & Trackback Affect Seo?

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by TSG, Feb 6, 2013.

I have big issue with spammers. Every days my wordpress blog has 150-200 spam comments and trackbacks. I use akismet and cloudflare. Are there any way to stop these spam bots? Is it only for me? Is it a normal situation?

I'm a newbie for wordpress, trackback negatively affect my site ranking? I mean Google consider my blog as a spam? Everyday I delete all the trackback comments on my site. :(

Have a look at a Plugin called "Bad Behaviour" or "Wordfence" plugins.
Youve mentioned you area a newbie at Wordpress but could consider ZB Block also for "firewall".

Thanks friend, your reply. I have used Wordfence, but it cause lots of errors. I saw them my cPanel. I think it make exclusive mysql quires or something similar. Are there any idea to fix that issue? I'll try bad behaviour. :D

Sorry - I hadnt seen any issues like this. But do try Bad Behaviour - You will need to signup to free StopSpam service but it does a lookup and also traps bad user agents etc.

Friend, looks like they are self pingback. After I disabled all of my posts pingback, now there's no that type of spammy comments. Need to check few more days.

Pingback works as expected. We have also used Akismet & we have seen a major difference in the number of spam comments. You can even consider enabling the captcha when anybody posts a comment.

Use akismet plugin its great. One more thing whenever you create any post just uncheck both boxes allow comments and allow pings. It will help because I am using it in my all wordpress sites.

Most blogs get comment spam because many person are looking for links. Besides blocking comment, charge for comment review (at a small fee, of cause) is another good method to prevent comment spam.

Just use a plugin like 'Antispam bee'. It's easy to configure and it's running fine by itself. Akismet can cause legal issues for admins in Europe.

First of all block "163.com". This website is famous for spam.

There is no need to use this ,when you are already using cloudflare. Add the "Discuss" comment method.

I use MP SpamBeGone plugin and it is effective in reducing both comment and trackback spam.

I dropped everything out there and the whole hassle of it by just using disqus plugin. I notice I get more valid comments from disqus users. Which was the whole point (get visitors to talk). I am not interested in comments being scored for my seo etc but if you need that then disqus isnt for you.
