Generally to stop and prevent hacking I am thinking of something, and looking for someone to help me with some domains that might have some malicious content,

Is it by Disabling the file write in specific domains prevent hacking?

Or safe mode or what should be done to prevent it from happening first place ?

Just use a good virus scanner with web protection and don't visit the site when that software says it might be malicious

That's not going to stop them, because many of the viruses that would steal the FTP password from a file, are also "sniffers" and since FTP transmits all data, including username and password, in plain text, they can steal them that way as well. I have a YouTube video showing how easy it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYI1kssrrbc

The best way is to use a non-administrator account, if you're using Windows, use SFTP instead of FTP and use WS_FTP by Ipswitch because it encrypts the saved passwords. I also use Sandboxie and/or Avast because they provide a virtual browser.

Then again, I do run on the paranoid side...

I think what duperhost was asking was how to make their website (server environment) more resistant to being hacked.

Assuming you are on php, such things as disabling http and ftp wrappers for commands like fopen, and file_get_contents will help protect against remote file execution in vulnarable scripts.

Disabling function like exec, system, etc will stop people executing underlying operating system commands.

google: "hardened php" for more tips.
