Hi, One of our sites is a retail site so obviously we have lots of content given to us by the manufacturers which we place on the site. This is then of course duplicated by many retailers blah de blah. Few Q's: 1) If we have 200 pages which is "supplemental" will this affect our rankings? 2) How can we avoid going "supplemental" on this sort of "product text"? Thanks
1 - Yes, having pages in Supplemental will hurt rankings for those pages. Those pages will never see daylight unless you do something about it. 2 - What you need to do is hire someone to change the content around, or do it yourself. Make additions to it. Completely re-write it. It might be a little time intensive, but do you really want 200 pages in supplemental that won't be getting any rankings and making any revenue for your company? Prob not. So it's worth it. In addition, another way to get more content on the page is to have a "User Review" section on that same page, kind of like how Amazon does it. Have users write reviews. That will add more unique content to the pages.
