Which forum software are you using? As far as my understanding goes, user login and search forms come under such attacks mostly & almost all of the BBS facilitates admins with pre-defined time limit for form (i.e. make a search or log in attempts) usage.
Depends on your host. Discuss a contingency plan with them. Perhaps you need to upgrade your hardware and/or software setup to be prepared.
Depending on the type of DoS, you cannot "stop" them. If you are having problems, contact your upstream. That is about the only recourse. They will know what to do.
Make it so "guests" cant search, post or do anything that could put strain on your server. If possible, make the page guests see low-fi, and image sizes to a minimum. Also contact your host and ask what safeguards they have in place.
Curious... How would you go about checking if it an actualy DOS attacK? Come to think of it, they'd be accessing the same page most of the time wouldn't they? So like you can just display an error page instead of the actual content.
to stop a ddos attack you will need hardware installed in your local pipline (internet pipline) before it reaches your modem/router. Q: where do I get this done A: only your isp can install the hardware and it costs millions
make sure your hardware firewalls are setup correctly if you are on a dedicated server if you are on a vps make sure u strengthen it and user peerguardian blocklists on it shared hosting should be ok but be prepared for some shit from your host
Hi, I am having a Pro dedicated server with Hostgator, and yesterday my server get down, when I send them a support ticket, they said that its a Ddos attack, and now its nearly 17 hours, still the server is down. Ddos attack is common issue which we are facing, I don't think so that it takes +17 hours . Now I am planing to change my Host, currently I am looking for dedicated now, and they people said that reo-roy is the solution and it will not take ore then hour. I am very much confused here, can someone plz suggest me what to do, Change the Host or wait more. Waiting for reply.
