I find using akismet and manually approving comments from new commentors is the easiest way.

Captcha is a fairly simple and effective method of filtering out automated rubbish. I also approve each post - works for me, but I'm small scale and usually only get 10 or 20 comments per day. You do get the odd persistent spammer who types things in manually but these are pretty easy to filter off.

Actually, I manually approve all comments but the thing is the spammy comments keep coming no matter how many times I disapprove them. All Spams come from some similar IPs and most of the links provided are quite similar. And the spam comments are posted on the same single post every time. Is there anyway I can stop such comments from coming to that specific post?

    Thanks,
    bnts

Have u tried akismet though? it is fantastic -- it will prescan and move all spam to a separate location from valid comments

I use akismet too and rarely get a spam comment that passes through it. Actually, maybe I never did (knock on wood.)

Askimet is the way to go, however since you have noticed that spams are coming from the same IP why not just ban the IP.

The IPs are not same, they are only similar..Will be good for me to ban the whole IP range?

I think in the end your only resource is manually approving comments. Spammers are far too resourceful to truly stop.

Add another vote for Akismet. I get thousands of spam comments a week and akismet catches 99.99% of them.
