How to stop 404 Page Not Found Error?

Hi!!! Member's,

I have 8 URL's which shows Crawling Error like Page Not Found in Google Webmaster Tool.

So how i stop this error?

i have disallow them in robots.txt but still getting this error...

Remove form xml site map and it's not effective then Redirect url on another page

If a page no longer exists there is nothing wrong with it returning a 404.

best practice is if you are just changing the URL of a page, put in a 301 redirect from the old to the new URL. A 301 will pass link juice and allow the search engines to pick up the new page more easily.

however if it is a case that a page is no longer relevant to your business then getting rid of it and leaving it to return a 404 is best practice.

double check how Google are finding the 404 pages - links etc. Try to remove or change as many of those links as possible.

 

redirect those broken links to 404 error page for Google to stop crawling them. if there is indeed broken links, correct the links.

Which pages shown 404 error pages, remove all those pages from xml sitemap file and after that redirect all pages to another pages.

 

It would help to have fun 404 error pages in the meantime while you sort this out

 

You can redirect [404 error pages/ not found pages] using 301 redirect to home page. In this case visitors and Google see your home page instead of error page. Its a way and its search engine and Google friendly too.
