I have a travel blog where I would like to create new forum, how to start? Do I need to create users manually and simulate communications for several months until there will be some traffic and users will write themeselves?

What freeware to use for it?

However which way you do it, you need to have an active forum before you start inviting/expecting people to post there. Getting the initial level of activity is the most difficult aspect for any new forum.

i strongly suggest to use YetAnOtherForum.NET. In my openion forum is very difficult thing to start. You have to wait long time to actually see real traffic

I think that the best forum SW is vBulletin... so the question is... is it good to start with phpbb or other open source forum, or it is better to invest some money and buy a license for vBulletin however I'm not sure if the forum will be active? Is it possible to sell the license later if I will not meet my expectations?

Just made this post in another thread. Market, produce quality content/visuals, and give it time. Nothing good ever comes easily.

You can start off with something free like MyBB, PunBB or so.

If you have the money and the motivation go for vBulletin, nothing beats it!

Then be patient and dedicate hundreds of hours to it...

making users manually and posting everything by yourself is a good trick, but better you gather some people to do it. Choose a good forum software and start with some people together.
