In all of my blogs, apart from this one, I’ve refused to use the ‘Top Commenters’ widget, now this is mainly because I’ve found it to bring a lot of spam comments, from people using automated tools to try to increase their backlinks, which we talked about in the previous post, so now you understand what link building is, it’s time to learn how to build some links! I simply hate spammers! They will eventually pay the price. If one person can't spend on advertising, they shouldn't be in the business in the first place! Don't you all agree with me?
Hi Xero SEO, Tried to post a comment on your blog but it doesn't work. It either asked for "Please press the back button and fill the required field for spam protection." or redirected me to an invalid page ( I did enter all the required fields).
I totally free with you, but not everyone has money to spend on advertising for their first SEO project. Sorry, had a plugin hiccup, try now and it should be working fine.
Dude... You did the same thing in another thread. I really think that pulling people out of the forum like that (with a link) will get you a serious ban here or worse... Head's up.
forget just the "top commenters", I closed down commenting altogether. its almost ALWAYS someone trying to get SEO spam.
SEO spam isn't necessarily bad. If it's a human contributing and they make an insightful post, what do you care what their motive is? If you have comment subscribers the "spam" will trigger an email to them to re-visit the page. Traffic is good. Besides.. if they are giving something positive (in the form of a well thought-out comment), why not give them something back (in the form of a link)?
i will never understand comment spam. i think blog commenting for backlinks is grey hat at the least and unless they provide a damn good comment i simply won't allow "free DVD's" to comment on my blog entry. it's has low SEO effect and looks naff.
I think as long as the commenter has good comment, it's OK to be there. Just what I personally do, ever webmaster is different though.
One of the most important thing on blogs is commenting. It is a sharing platform.Besides it is very easy to detect and delete spams so I dont think it is a big problem
I totally agree with you, I've never had any problems with spam comments, you just need to know how to configure your blogs set up.
I've frankly been shocked at the amount of comment spam I receive on my blog, which is a PR 2, but is do-follow. It seems like a lot of people are clearly ignorant of what is likely to be approved or not. It's actually rather funny to check and see someone try to post a comment with 50 anchor text links inside of it. Who would ever approve that?
I totally disagree with you because trying to get a business going on a very small budget will not allow spending gulps of money on advertising. If you are so lucky to have money to spend left and right then congratulations. Your profession is probably "being the son of a rich man". Unfortunately we are not in that lucky position. We have tried to build an online store for my wife to make up hopefully a few bucks of the money we lost on our household income when she was laid off almost one year ago and still couldn't find any new job to this day and probably won't find any job because of health and age reasons. And then someone like you (and here I really have to hold myself back not to violent the rules of this forum) comes along and tells me, if we don't have the money for advertising we shouldn't be in business at all? Thanks a lot buddy!
None of the spammy comments left on your blogs was left by a person. Its very simply automated, so while you lot sit round here moaning about spammer and how bad they are, the 'spammer' is on to the next site to promote. DD
A spammy comment will usually be left by a automated script/application, yeah, but I personally still get quite a lot of unique blog comments on my blogs from real-users. Blog commenting isn't dead for SEO and certainly isn't all SPAM.
Spammers sure do waste a lot of time don't they? Going around saying 'hey, great blog. Very interesting reading'. or 'you've got yourself another subscriber here' and then with a signature like www.buycheapcarshere.
Spammers waste so much time, and they can get little thing. But why still so many people like doing that? It seems that Spammers can have a certain effect also. http://bit.ly/VancouverOlympics2010
Read this thread hoping to learn something. I knew it was unlikely once I saw the OP had been banned. I am kind of surprised that the forum doesn't have a sticky of white hat techniques or something. Maybe they don't sticky because big G keeps moving the goal posts?
