How to start as a freelance writer without the help of freelance sites?

I am a tech blogger by heart and i have written over 200 posts. I want to become a freelance writer and earn part time from my writing services. But the problem is that most of these freelance websites have a bidding service and they require my CV. You guys tell me after having a decently popular blog who wants to make his CV. So I decided for any clients my blog will be a CV itself. So i want your suggestions on getting started and how to find clients independently.

Thus far all I've managed is using forums like this one, actually. How about you start a sales thread once you have enough posts and you've been here 14 days?

Give Fiverr a shot and the various clones of it.

I would not recommend all the clones of Fiverr though.

It can't hurt to have gigs out there on a few of them; who knows, you might even get a bite here and there from them. :p

You can create a WTS(Want to Sell) thread under Content Creation sub-forum of Buy,Sell or Trade section in DP.
There, you can show off your abilities to produce content to the prospect clients and also build a portfolio of your own.

hey man are there real clients out there. Do you think i should apply for a premium membership. Currently the WTS is telling me my account is not old enough to submit a thread. So i have to wait for I think 7 days. In the meanwhile I think i will try to build up my reputation.

As far as I can remember, you need at least 25 posts to start a WTS thread. You can apply for jobs at WTB threads too.
I see you have 28 posts now. So, I guess you can create WTS threads now.
About building reputation: It's a must or else it's hard to get quality work and pay.

If you want a free approach, you could try posting your service in free online classified ads. There are a number of these and all it will cost you is your time. Just link to your website from the ad and send people there directly. Or, naturally you could take out paid advertising which works as well.

Also answering ads for writers in popular forums is a great way to get new clients. Many people do not advertise, they watch for service providers who answer 'wanted' ads and contact them directly.

Yea, you need not have a website or online portfolio as long as you have some samples. Be specific when you applying for some jobs. Eg. if you are applying for a job to write an article on WEIGHT LOSS, have something ready in the similar niche. Even if you don't have better rating on the forum, you can find buyers.

To have some iTraders, better start with some review copies or low-priced articles [just for a few days or 3-5 clients]

    Good Luck :)
