Whether it be an online business or brick-and-mortar, there are quite a few business principles that are the same. With that being said, do your research. Find a product or service that's needed or fulfills a void for consumers/businesses. Once you have that idea for a product/service, see what technology is needed to execute.
Research it up man, build up a good idea and research. Also, sell stuff people want. You can't sell them something that nobody buys.

Don't go out and start an online store. First, do some research. You should know your market size, competition level, product margins and profit goals before you even think of creating a site. Once you've done research, then come up with a brand and a USP. You need an edge. You can't sell the same thing as everyone else and expect to make any money. You need an edge in price, quality, differentiation or education to have any chance of making money. Once you know how you're going to be different, create a brand around that idea. Then, create an awesome website and market it

One thing you'll need which others haven't mention is a unique TLD name either keyword related or truly unique like Instagram. Research what it is you want to sell online; physical product - either you or another company manufactures, downloadable digital products (e.g. games, music, etc) or a service. Choose a open-source CMS - not Wordpress, it's not build for ecommerce even you can utilize plugins to make it appear as so - you host on your server or hosted solution (e.g. MagentoGo). Hire an experience designer to design front end of your site and experience developer to handle building any custom plugins or module for your website or troubleshooting server-side issues. Your hosting provider's staff might not always know what's specifically going on with your website. You want to be able to save yourself from such frustrating moments if you're not developer. Establish a Merchant bank account with your bank institution or one of the more well known Import/Export Banks (i.e. HSBC) if you're going to concentrate on importing/exporting. Note: Establish the merchant when you have you're products uploaded to your website. Some banks will want to see what it is you're actually selling on your website. Choose a payment gateway (e.g. Authorize.Net) or payment processor (e.g. Skrill (Moneybookers) or PayPal) to handle processing your customer's credit card payments. Choose a SSL certificate to install on your shopping cart to encrypt the customer's login and checkout details. You can go to trade shows to meet manufacturers or agents representing the big manufacturers to purchase products once you've decide on what you're going to market and sell. Don't dropship from other individuals! Find the wholesaler distributor contact info by calling the actual manufacturer(s) of the products you want to sell. Some manufacturers or their secretary may be reluctant to give you such details if they fill you're not qualified from the way you present yourself when you call. Have your marketing plan & business plan & follow through on it & revise it continuously.

They provides the portal accounts through which you can sell their products and share the commissions. I am also a new starter of online shopping business, and have done several research before going ahead with this. Thanks!
