Hey DP, I recently posted a thread on "general marketing" asking how to start making money via Online Marketing. And a popular result was thought Affiliate programs. However I don't know what affiliate programs are. So I was wondering if you could help me understand affiliate programs and get myself started. Thank you Appreciate it, Andrew
Well, basically, an affiliate is a person who refers customers who would buy a product. Hmm, that didn't make any sense. Ok, here you go: you're an affiliate. John is a vendor. I am a customer. You promote your website/ad/whatever to me. You tell me that this product is "the" product and that I should buy it. I then buy John's product, not even knowing that that is not your product but John's, because I don't care. The product costs $50. As a reward for your efforts, John (automatically nowadays) awards you with 50-75% commission of the sale - that is, you will get $25 or $37.5. It is very good. It is just like a ladderized education that need to put in efforts in order to be the best affiliates. To start affiliating is just so easy you just need to sign up for an affiliate websites. Such as clickbank.
Broken down: Affiliate Marketing only pays when a referred visitor completes an action. ie buy something, sign up, register, etc. Adsense type marketing is where you get paid regardless of what the referring visitor does after referral.
Just add one more point. Think it in a Brick and Motar world you as a Sales Rep,distributor and only get paid when someone buys the product ur selling.

Well, you need a plan. You will then need a website, or several (depending on how big you want to go). You then need to apply with affiliate programs. After all that comes the hard work.
if you are comfortable with managing a site then buy a domain, otherwise use any blogging platform to start up then join a affiliate network, that can help you learn along the way.

Patience to learn to generate traffic 4. patience to learn seo (Part of point 3) basically you will have to do everything a normal site owner will have to do plus extra. Write quality informative articles rather than just trying to sell the products. You must devote some time to learning in depth about affiliate marketing Conversions of 3-4% is actually good. that means you will get 3-4 sales if you refer 100 people to the merchant site.
