Hi, I`m interested in starting a seedbox business as I saw that this niche is very "popular" these days. The thing is I`m kinda noob on where to start, what to I need to know, how much money do I need. Let`s say I have $200 and I want to offer a quality service at good prices. What should I do first, contact a reseller ? Do you know some with good price ? Let`s say I found a reseller, what do I need to do next, find a hosting/domain for my "company" website ? Do you know some cheap ones ? That`s all the steps I can anticipate, for the rest, please reply me
$200 barely can help you survive 1 month. Now offshore server cost at least $300/month. Since you're new you need go thru reseller. Domain name company is not necessary. I also did not have my own website for this service. Indeed its a luractive biz if you know how to source client.
With $200 budget, you can start with purchasing an offshore vps server and resell it as a shared seedbox. Do not forget to calculate how much bandwidth and diskspace you will need (big RAM is not really a significant factor in this case), and then search for prospective clients. I've not tried doing seedbox business myself, but I have one seedbox to served my need until now. I suggest you to find a great sysadmin to optimize your network configuration to increase your seedbox performance (this is not needed if you are using reseller package).
I dont know, what are these from here: http://www.seedhost.net/dedicated.html ? vps ? How many users do you think can use the 1st and 2nd server comfortably without limiting the numbers of torrents, just the hdd space. ?
It depends on your package. I would say give 20-50 GB of HDD space depending on the price. So if you have a 1TB HDD, then this would give you 50 users maximum per server, which is nearly impossible. The problem with seedboxes is CPU and RAM usage, and I would say a quality service has 2-8 users per server, while you can go up yo 12-16, but things can get slow. This is why some sites limit the number of active torrents - so they lower CPU and RAM usage. The internet connection should be standard 100/100 Fiber Optic. 1Gbps is rare, and not widely used. Anyway, this is an interesting business, if you need a partner, send me a PM. I have a few good ideas that can help out.
