i have Intel P4 2.4Ghz 1GB DDR2 RAM 1 x 160GB SATA II Drive i want to start a web hosting provider my internet connection is 2mb/sec broadband (PTCL) what more equipment i require what every thing else require can i start registering domain too and for space i need to install a software or any script ???
I assume yours is a dedicated? First off you need a good control panel to set it up and administrate things, Cpanel or Directadmin are two choices. realize too that users can often do things and install scripts that can screw up the whole server, so be prepared to do troubleshooting work often and with no notice, and you will need another hard drive to do backups too or pay for a backup service. that processor you have is not very fast either, your server could bog down really quickly depending on what the users are doing on it
thanks your reply is helping the cpanel will be installed on my computer?? and i think it is a script so might be on an host then how i will configure it with my computer and if the specified computer is not good what you prefer thanks
If you're in it for the money I recommend just being a reseller or an affiliate and not actuually have the server running in ur room or whatever. You can make some good money if you refer ppl to other hosts. Take a look here for some comparisons and what they pay. http://www.affiliatetips.com/web-hosting-affiliate-program.html
oh, I thought you had a server at a datacenter if you are thinking of hosting from your home on a regular home connection, it is very likely that it is against the TOS of your internet provider
no its not against tos i have random access connection i told them about starting host so gimme a static IP and they replied we ll charge 1$ extra so it ll be $15
did you make it clear that you will be reselling their service to third parties? maybe the person you talked to didn't understand correctly?
This isn't really related, but if you ever are in need of a good unique hosting template, message me. I don't sell a single template more then once, so you can be assured this is 100% unique, never seen before. http://host.kellyax.com/
You would be better off spending $10 a month for the first 6 months and just buying a reseller account at HostGator.com. This will be bigger, faster and better then your server and the cost is only $10 a month and you do not have to worry that someone hacks your server. Build up the business and then you are out maybe $100-$120 if it flops. At the end of 6 months, transfer the data/clients to your own server after you get your feet wet. This along with adult entertainment websites are some of the most competitive markets out there right now. Good luck my friend!
mmm, good luck with it! but you will have too many competence, try to get a niche, like mmmm laywers or dog walking services, just an idea... Best regards, Jakomo
thanks its good idea but i check on host gator and they are $24 per months and 8$ for a single web and yes reseller ship is batter then own tension
It is also important to provide high quality and earn a good reputation at the very beginning. Once you have fully satisfied customers they will recommend your services to friends and other people. It is very important to become a well-recognized brand at the market!
If you even have to ask that kind of question, you don't know enough to be a good host. I'm not trying to be rude here but when your clients need support, they expect you to be able to help.
If he begins from reseller account he doesn't need to support customers at all. All that he will need to do is to redirect problems to host.
Use xammp if you want to make life easier for yourself. You could do with 2mb but it wont be the most pleasant host -Howlinghawk
