I plan to start a blog on a general topic (aviation). I'am confused with how things work in a blog so would appreciate any help. The site I would like to have a similar presence is www.autoblog.com I don't mean to steal their layout but something on similar fashion should be fine. How do I get started and how much would it cost me approximately. I prefer not to use free blogging services (blogger.com, blogflux....etc) Anything else I may need to know before I start........
I could reccommend using Wordpress as your CMS, its easy to install into your site AND there are many great themes available for download on the internet! Good luck
Check out my recent blog entries at Online Opportunity. I'm doing a series of posts about setting up a website for free, including setting up Wordpress. I'm using JustFree.com, a free webhost that offers a similar experience to paid hosts. Jay
Thanks, I'll get started right away with the limited knowledge I have. Where can I get Wordpress from? And do I need to first create a website to get started with or can I create the blog first and host it later......?
Just log on to www.wordpress.org and hit the download button and you should know what to do later on. After downloading, edit the necessary, there'd be a readme notepad if you're afraid you don't know what to do, so don't worry. Install wordpress to your server and start blogging. You can download free themes either from wordpress official website or do a search at Google for your desired theme. I recommend http://www.vanillamist.com/ and Small Potato from wpdesigner.com. Good luck with your new blog.
most hosting providers already have wordpress installed. Check your hosting company for details on the hosting package you use.
If you want free hosting but want to avoid Blogger, etc, go to JustFree.com and sign up. They have Wordpress installed. You do have to setup a database before you install Wordpress (again, see my blog for how to setup the database). Jay
Thanks so much. I have a clear picture now on what to do and how to get started. Will get back once my blog is ready. Thanks guys.......
I just finished part 3 of setting of a website for free on my blog which covers setting up Wordpress on JustFree.com. If you have trouble getting it all working, let me know. Jay
wordpress will do just fine. you can even set it up on a Wordpress.com thing, it's like Blogger, totally free.
