    I'd start with Facebook, then link to Twitter etc. You may want to build a linkwheel to either your Facebook or your own page. You also might want to promote it with some cheap advertising so people will be sent to your page.

    You can also ask someone with a lot twitter/facebook followers to review your product, if you don't have that many followers. I also do it myself, works every time :)

    It will depend upon the product mostly. Still talking in general terms, you can start the Facebook page, twitter account and start spreading the various updates and surely you can also release the press information in shape of press release too.
