How to Split the sitemap.xml pages

    Hello Friends,


    How to Split the sitemap.xml pages. Our sitemaps contain than 5,560 urls. So i decided to split that large sitemap.xml file into smaller .xml files with sitemap1, sitemap2, sitemap3,sitemap4, sitemap5.


    Does google accept sitemaps with that many files? Is this benefits in Search Engines. I am waiting for your replay ASAP...

    yes.. you can submit multiple sitemaps to google.. and it does help.. I cant help ou as have not tried it out..
    had checked a real estate site where each category had its own sitemap..
    www.abc.co.uk/xyx - had its own sitemap
    www.abc.co.uk/jkl -had its own sitemap.. etc.. etc....

    i do not know how it helps.. but if someone tried that and google does accept multiple sitemaps then there must be a plus point to that..

    ya you can create multiple site map ans also submit it. This is beneficial .

    Your sitemapper should split automatically when necessary. Read this article about xml sitemap splitting

    yes that's the correct way to upload the sitemap above 500 pages.

    Official sitemaps protocol supports up to 50000 URLs per XML sitemap file. In addition to the link I posted earlier, you can also check the official sitemaps page http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php

    Well each sitemap can have 50000urls and size doesnt be more than 10mb but webmasters suggest to have only 100 urls per sitemap.
