How to split an article and get "Continue Reading"

I don't know how to split a large article, that if you view the main page you just see the title of the article and a piece of the large text, with under it: "Continue reading" or sometimes "See Full article" and then you get to the complete text of the article

I never found out how to do this.

In the writing panel show all the options and there should be something that kind of looks like two squares with a line in the middle. Otherwise <!more...>

You can enter custom text for the link as well rather than have every one read the same, info on various different ways to use it on the official codex page :)

It is actually depending on your theme file, some theme having the_content code instead of the_excerpt.

But to try it, whenever you create a post, switch to "html" tab and not "visual" tab. In "html" tab, place your cursor wherever you want this "continue reading" to appear, and type: <!--more--> (only the red font) and save/preview your post. If it doesn't show, it means you need to edit the theme file or use default theme, it will work.

Ah k I found out how to do it but not how to make fancy changes to it how it should look like you want on any theme. Which file to I have to edit to change it the way I want it to be like: Continue Reading ... or "Read More ..."

I looked but didn't found the content file or something

that could be in multiple areas, take a look (if they exist with your template) home.php, blog.php, default.php, main_index.php something similar to those since it could be that each page has that "Read More..." reference. And it would be hardcoded, so you can just change it to what you like.

Alright thanks but isn't that near impossible to find ? I mean I don't know coding. It would be useful to know which file I need to edit and on what line I am supposed to find this code that allows me to change the "Read More" thing. But its k if that would be impossible to explain as each style has other building of coding in files.

What does Slug mean btw ?
