How to spend $70 on SEO?

Hi everyone,

I’m being paid $70 per month to a manage a website for South Africa’s leading travel/accommodation website http://www.sa-venues.com. Sa-venues has a page rank of 7 and an Alexa rank of 16032 and is probably one of the best SEO optimized travel websites on the internet. (Have a look at it!)

Now the website (PR4) that I’m managing for them is http://www.southafrica-2010-accommodation.com. As many of you will know South Africa will host the next Fifa Soccer World Cup in 2010. At the moment I have Google Ads on the website, but I only have a click-through rate of about 1,5%. I only get +-400 visitors per month. Am I being rejected by directories because of ads?

As the Soccer World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world and I’m employed by the leading travel website on SA Tourism (SA is a brilliant tourist destination btw and has many highly developed areas ) I’m thinking of spending the $70 per month I get from them on increasing backlinks to my site.

I hope to get that money back from Google Ads and other affiliate marketing companies. How will you guys spend $70 per month? I’m thinking to start with Alive Directory and manual directory submission from DP members who offer their services on here eg. $45 for 1000 directories. Is it the investment worth if I’m hoping to make money through affiliate marketing and Google Ads?

The Soccer World Cup 2010 will attract a huge audience (hundreds of million of people) and currently there are only 2 websites that is ranking strong for my keywords that I’m targeting namely “world cup 2010”. Tickets will be available from 2008 so one can expect that the number of world cup searches will increase dramatically in the next year.

I’ve spent many days reading about SEO and I’m quite knowledgeable at the subject now, but now I want to start acting because the world cup is approaching! I’m 17 years old so $70 is not petty cash for me you know, but I guess it’ll be a calculated risk to spend that on link development. Any suggestions how you'll spend that money will be appreciated. Thank you!!!

PS. Sorry if my English is poor. My mother tongue is Afrikaans which is similar to Dutch...

Get as many free links out there as possible and make wise decisions on what links you spend the remaining $70 on!

I would look for lots of permanent pr4-5 links and visit lots of soccer forums with a sig link!

 

Hire me for $60 and spend the remaining $10 on a drink or something

 

I would save those $70 learning myself how to do SEO, practicing and testing until mastering the technique.

Is not that hard

 

I would spend the money on hiring article writers. In my opinion this would be the best use of this money.

I would start a campaign centered around soccer, its the most popular sport wordwide.

 

I would suggest to go for Adwords. That will helpful.

adwords does absolutely Nothing for SEO

The domain name is about 2 years old, so to how many directories can I submit at once before Google will think it's spam? If I pay $100 for 3 DP Member (I've identified them already to submit my site to 1300 directories (All of them are PR3+ if I can remember correctly) will it be a good investment? I guess it will, but isn't it too much dirs at once? The one woman guarantee to submit my site to 500 directories in 48 hours.

I've also came across someone that asks only $8 for 450 article submissions.

But maybe I must, like Loco said, get a few quality backlinks from Alive or Aviva as a start because the high PR dirs take weeks or even months to accept one's site.

I think my site is relatively well optimized for my keywords (although the domain name doesn't contain the word 'world cup'), but I really need more inbound links. My biggest competitor on the 2010 world cup has only 460 inbound links, but he he's listed in Google's Open Directory on a PR4 page.

- write articles about soccer and south africa and submit them to directories
- even you can try to get links from wikipedia
- video marketing , try to get clips about the studium of south africa, the best palce of south africa,....
- start blog about soccer
- try to get links from south africa web sites and specially soccer journalists
- comments players blogs,
before you start to spend your money try to get more free solution then shcedule to spend them (after 6 months you will have 70*6=$ 420 as a budget).

 

Hmm start with getting good backlinks, maybe you can try buy one link on http://www.seodir.net and then on other directories/sites.
