how to setup membership in wordpress .

First I have to say, I begin to build wp based site 1.5+ years ago .
I can code wordpress theme by myself . But I am not good at php code and utility all features of wordpress .

I setup a wp based site . For some part of the content , I would like only the register member can read it . How can I make it ?
I code and hack some wp themes, I still don't know which page users can register .

pls give me some advice or links to solve the problem. Thanks.
