I'm setting up some forums for my website. I'm having a bit of a problem.
Can someone give me dummy instructions on how to install simple machines forums? My web host is 1and1.com

Simply, you need to be able to create a database with user permissions, such as username and password, this basically specifies the user that is allowed access to the tables in the database and who is allowed to manipulate the data that flows to and from these tables.

    That said.

You need to run the install file, im pretty sure with simple machines that it is yourdomain.tld/smf/install.php
where yourdomain is the registered domain name or in your case the subdomain and the smf is the directory in which you placed the SMF files into.

Then it is just a matter of completing the fields.
For more information, i have found this for you docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=4 [just copy and paste this into your address bar on your browser]

    Hope this helps,
    Nick

sorry to say 1 and 1 isn't a friendly place.
if they offer the feature called "Fantastico" in your website control panel, use that to automatically install SMF.

It's not hard at all. I use 1and1. Just go to Administration panel. Go into MySql
Add a new database. It will automatically create a name, password, everything for you

Upload your forum with FTP. Go to yourwebsite.com/install.php or whatever your directory is. Put in the ifo it wants. It's really that simple
