Yes, paypal subscriptio is a wise choice. However, you got to be very accurate in order to deal with the business. I.e. if your client stop using your product, you better cancel that subscription or else it will lead to chargeback/dispute
If you run single site then using paypal is a good move. However, if you are running multiple site as you mentioned, then you can use the automatic subscription service by paypal directly. You need to use affiliate / payment processing manager to help you manage multiple sites. One of the good software I came across is Delavo by John. Just google it and you can find this software and its features.
