How to set up a proxy just for me on HostGator

    Hello.

I am looking to set up some type of proxy service so that I can use my webhost, HostGator as my proxy so I look like I have a US IP address (I am in Australia).

I am having a difficult time in seeing my affilate offers ("Sorry, that offer is not available in your area") and I am very frustrated.

Is it possible to do as I want? Ie, use my existing host somehow as my proxy, by installing some type of script?

I would be looking to pay someone to set this up for me.

    Thanks

You can install a simple PHP Proxy script and then password protect it so nobody else could use this :)

hostgator MAY not allow hosting on their shared servers if you ask them but they still work ...yes they work as i have a php one on my "baby plan " with HG ... I wanted to learn and play and i installed script and its working fine on my shared server .

I think the issue ill come if theres a busy proxy then they will pull you , also there doesnt seem to be nything obvious thats says anywhere on their site , no proxys allowed on share servers

I think if your password protected it and it was only for your own use then hostgator wont have a problem with it

Okay, so I have a question about proxies.

I have not had a very good experience using public proxies before. In fact, nothing ever seems to work when I try.

If I were able to get something up and running on my HostGator account, and of course password protect it so just myself uses it, what kind of experience would I have in surfing and so forth?

If I understand it, I would send all my requests from my machine here in Australia, through to my HostGator proxy, and then the traffic would go to the actual site. Then the information would come back through HostGator, and then on to me here in Australia. Is that a proxy in a nutshell?

Will I experience a lot slower surfing times?

Will all websites just appear as per normal?

    Thanks
