How to sell products on content pages

I was doing very well with datafeeds sites, but I can't get decent traffic anymore and gave up on this concept. Please do not respond like "but I am doing well with datafeed sites" or "I can help you with this". For me this is over.

Now I have content sites with Adsense and making progress. Slowly, but steady. Same here, do not respond with suggestions about content.

This is the question I have. What are good ways (I don't think there is a best way) to sell products on content pages. I know it has to be related as a start.

I have a database with a lot of products. As it is now, I have a search box for products to this database. But this is not very effective.

What are good ways to add products.

    Small thumbnails?
Single thumbnails (all over the place)?
    Several thumbnails in banner style?
    Larger pictures?
    Text links?
    Text links with descriptions?
Large shopping area at bottom page?
    Linking to my shopping site?
Linking to landing page for one product?

    For me, it has been:

    • Relevant products <-- THIS IS KEY
    • Small pictures
    • Long descriptions

Without relevancy I can sell products, but changes are very small. And it doesn't look good on a site. If I try to sell credit cards on a garden info page, I am giving the wrong impression. Looks a bit like salesmen knocking on peoples doors to sell products.

Never thought of this combination (if this is what you mean). A thumbnail with description, leading to the product page.

People mostly don't buy at the first time, even you put your products with sexy gal image. Try to get your visitors to subscribe in your list, it can be your own contents update list or free gift list...then build trust through your email follow up, finally do your personal recommendation(sell products).:)

Also a good suggestion. I have to think this over. Probably I can do both (direct product selling and newsletter). Some are looking for products right now and some don't.

Maybe you should do a soft sell approach and find a way to insert links to the sales page within your articles.
I mean presell using the articles and send them to the sales page for the product.

I dont know if this is exactly what you were looking for , but that was my 2 cents.

Write reviews about the products. Get your visitor excited about the product so that they want to buy. do comparisons with similar products and tell them why your product is the best and they should buy it!

Writing reviews would give you the targeted visitors needed that are interested in the product.

First make sure your products are relevant to the content...

Otherwise, a thumbnail with a short description would be your best bet.

    Long descriptions with usefull information
Small images of different screen shots
    link to your landing page
Clearly state the price (i hate it when you find out the price after adding to your shopping cart)

I think for me the best is relevant products and 2 options:

    1) Thumbnails with short description
    2) Subscribe to newsletter

This is placed on content pages. When using large descriptions or reviews on the content pages, the content page start becoming a selling page. I want to avoid this. The main issue has to be content.
